Water Ripple Cube Night Light

A clear acrylic cube with a rippled, hand-moulded surface, sitting on a small plinth. Inside it a lit plate turns slowly, and the ripples bend the light on its way out — so what lands on the walls and ceiling is a slow moving caustic, the pattern you get off the bottom of a swimming pool. Switched off it is a plain frosted block. Switched on in a dark room it takes the whole room over.

Sixteen colours and the brightness are set from the handset, and the manufacturer is explicit that the remote is how you reach the full colour range — so keep it somewhere you can find it. There is a battery inside and a USB cable in the box, so it can be charged and then carried to another room, or simply left plugged in.

Three things worth saying plainly. The manufacturer's own sheet gives the body as ABS in one line and acrylic in another; from the photographs the cube is clear acrylic and the base is opaque plastic, and that is what we are describing. It is sold as an aurora and ocean-wave projector, but what it actually throws is a water ripple, so that is the name we use. And no battery capacity or run time is stated anywhere in the manufacturer material, so we do not quote one.
